NORTHERN CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP. The semi-final in the club championship pairs was staged at Northern on Saturday afternoon, a very closely contested game finding Shaman defeating Fenwick by a one point margin. K. Stallard and Fenwick (s) lost to Thirtle and Sharman (s), 20 —21. Even scoring was maintained to the twelfth head, Fenwick then securing a four and a two. Sharman gained on the next four heads and had drawn even when the seventeenth head gave live to the opposition. Sharman caught up again at the twentieth while on the last Fenwick got his lead to drive and burnt the head. On the play off, which was a very much shorter head, Sharman was lying three down before his last bowl went up. He trailed kitty and Fenwick was unable to beat this with his last bowl, losing the game by the closest margin. Inter-Club Visit. Palmerston North and Terrace End Clubs exchanged visits on Saturday, three rinks travelling to each green. Details of play at the Palmerston North ground re appended, Terrace End rinks being mentioned first : Toogood, Mills, Moffat, Johnson (s), 17, lost to Grant, Crawford, J. Child, Iverslake (s), 27. Thomas, Simpson, Gordon, Grant (s), 21, beat Giorgi, Gooding, Simmons, Fraser (s), 11. Totals : Terrace End 56, Palmerston North 52. Play at Terrace End was wholly in favour of the visiting rivals. Scores were as follows, Palmerston North players being mentioned first : Lancaster, McCulloch, Sparrow, Boss (s), 27, beat Joseph, Knowles, Snell, Davidson (s), 18. Morris, Procter, Eglinton, N. H. In a colts rink game at Terrace End, Hopwood, Edwards, Wilkinson (s), of Palmerston North Club, bent Lock, Morris, Lockwood, Lightfoot (s), of Terrace End, 23 —12.

Veteran’s Vase. In a match for the Veteran’s Vase, Terrace End defeated Northern, 29—9. At Manawatu Green. A strong sou'westerly wind called for careful handling and an element of luck in drawing shots on the Manawatu green on Saturday. A feature of the afternoon was a friendly match between a rink from Palmerston North, skippered by J. A. Nash, and a Manawatu rink skippered by Cl. Corbridge. At the afternoon tea adjournment the scores were nine all with level pegging until the seventeenth head. A three to Manawatu at the latter end of the game left them winners by IS to 15. Royal played a nice steady game for the winners and maintained a good length throughout the match. Nash and Corbridge had a rare tussle skipping, both playing good bowls. The rinks were : Manawatu—Sliand, Royal, Kennedy, Corbridge (s) ; Palmerston North—Killick, Schiolor, Anderson, J. A. Nash (s). Several closely contested championship games were played during the afternoon. In the singles match between Corbridge and King the scores were level practically throughout the game and two singles on the last two heads gave Corbridge the victory by two points. In the championship pairs, D. and E. Low playing a confident, game, created a surprise by beating a strong pair, Kennedy and Corbridge (s). Hunter and Burns (s) who required three to tie in their pairs game with Porter and Olney (s) on the last head secured four and won the game by one. A good finish to a closely contested game.
