BOARD REPLY TO PALMERSTON’S DEMAND The following Teply has been received by Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., from the Minister of Employment to tho urgent requests made by the Mayor (Mr. A. E. Mansford) and Mr. Nash for further assistance for single unemployed men in Palmerston North: — “I have discussed-your representations with the executive of the Unemployment Board and regret that the board is unable to make a special grant to your relief committee. Palmerston North’s allocation is equal to the best outside tho four main centres. “Work in camps is being offered your single men and provision is being made for exemption on grounds medically unfit or other circumstances approved by the certifying officer. I am sorry we cannot meet your requests further. “The Unemployment Board has no further supplies of meat on hand. If more is purchased for uso in the coming winter Palmerston North’s claim will not be overlooked.”
