Rongotea

CRICKET From Our Own Correspondent.

On Monday last the Rongotea cricket team journeyed to Taikorea to play a friendly game. Rongotca, who had the batting first, compiled 147 runs. Lunch was then provided by tho Taikorea ladies, which was greatly appreciated. After lunch Taikorea commenced their innings, but could only compile 30 runs, as a result of outstanding bowling by J. Burgess and E. W. Gust for Rongotea. On their second visit to the wickets Taikorea did a little better in that they replied with 33 Tuns, thus leaving Rongotea the victors by an innings and 80 runs. Double-figure scorers for Rongotea wero A. Arnott 51, E. Tunnicliffo 14, R. Gloyn 15, G. Burgess 11, Fred Wright 31, 11. Hughes 11. Bowling for Taikorea in the first innings G. Burgess did remarkably, well taking 8 wickets for 13 runs. E. W. Gust took 4 wickets for 17 runs, and in tho second innings the bowling analysis was: F. Wright, senr., 9 wickets for 15 runs; V. Tunnicliffe, 2 for 7; H. Blaxland, 1 for 9. Town Board

The usual monthly meeting of the Town Board w-as held on Monday, January 23, when there were present: Messrs. L. H. Garrall (chairman), E. J. Arnott, W. Arney, T. Fraser and the clerk, Mr. C. P. Wood. Tho statuary half-holiday for Bongotca was left at Thursday, *as in previous years. The clerk was appointed to collect the dog tax in tho district, which is unaltered. It was decided to have tho monument in the Memorial square cleaned and polished and the lettering rcgiltcd. Accounts to the amount of £3l were passed for payment. Mrs. W. J. Bond, who has been visiting New Plymouth, has returned home. The many friends of Mr. A. Treakner will bo pleased to learn that ho has returned to his home after being an inmato of Northcote privato hospital. His condition is greatly improved. Thursday last saw tho return of tho Rongotea Girl Guides, who have been in camp at Oncpuhi, Marton, under their captain, Miss L. Davis.
