Bowling
For the sixteenth, occasion the Pahiatua Bowling Club withstood a challenge for the Takaro Cup when they beat a Palmorston Club rink. The challengers were represented by a strong team, but after starting well they found the opposition too severe and were defeated by the wide margin of 25—13. The teams were: Wilkinson, Morris, Baylis, Skoglund (s) 13. Pahiatua: Murphy, Walker, Kershaw and Hodd (s) 25. In the Taranaki Bowling Centre’s tournament at New Plymouth the seventh round had been completed when R. Boulton (West End) was tho only undefeated skip. Terrace End (0 ’Shea, skip) lost to West End (Solo) in the fifth Tound, 15—21, I>ut beat Awakino (Bartlett), 21—1 in the next match. The rink sustainod a further defeat in the seventh round, howevor, being beaten by New Plymouth (Higgs), 22—18.
The Foilding rink, skipped by Wenham, failed to win a match in the three rounds. The defeats in each round were: Stratford (T. Skoglund), 21—16; Stratford (S. Ewing), 20 —18; Fitzroy (Murray), 21 —13. O’Shea has four wins and throe losses and Wenham one win and six losses.
A very enjoyable evening for those participating was the general concensus of opinion at the second electric light tournament held at the Terrace End Bowling Club on Thursday night. Those tournaments, if properly supported, will bo held on Thursday night, of each week, commencing at 6.30. The competition was won by Wally'Childs' rink with four wins.
