Women’s Institutes
AWAHURI Tho January meeting of the Awaliuri Women’s Institute wa's held in the hall on tho 18th inst. The meting opened with tho singing of the "Ode to Friendship.” Two now mombers were enrolled. Mrs Port and Mrs Bond were appointed delegates to attend the group meeting held in February. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Simpson and Port and Misses Minogue and Montgomerie. Tho meeting concluded with the National Anthem. There was a large gathering of members and their friends at the first annual picnic of the institute which was held at Kitchener Park, Feilding, on Wednesday under ideal weather conditions. An excellent sports programme for children and adults was carried out by an excellent committee. A treasure hunt foT married ladies was won by Mrs Hingston, tho single ladies’ race by Miss Karchana, the married men’s race by Mr D. Stewart, and the single men’s race by Mr A. Hancock. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Port for the use of the sports grounds and all thoso who worked !so hard to make the picnic a success.
