Both Were at Sea!
MOTORIST DREMPT HE WAS “WRECKED” ON BROAD HIGHWAY
The Service Officer for the Manawatu Automobile Association is at present endeavouring to collect records relative to the cause of both minor and serious motor accidents with the idea of assisting other drivers to avoid making the same mistakes.
A problem which is causing him considerable thought is “how to keep drivers awake while at the wheel.''
The scene is at Rangiotu. A car is proceeding towards Palmerston North towing another wrecked car. Gradually the first car goes steadily across the road and eventually disappears down a deep drain, landing on all four wheels. Quickly dismounting from his cycle the Service Officer with tho intention of assisting a seriously injured driver, was greeted with an unexpected surprise when the rear cushion was thrown up on to the bank landing almost at his feet. Eventually a rather bewildered motorist emerged, none the worse for the experience, giving as the reason for tho accident that he had Been working for seventeen hours and had gone to sleep. He had dreamt ho was at sea and must have thrown tho cushion out when “they launched the lifeboat.”
