SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING (From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of tho Woodville District High School Committee was held on Monday evening, there being present Mr. S. Turnbull (chairman), B. E. Johnston, G. Peebles, H. Pilcher, L. Williams, J. McPeak and tho secretary. A letter was received from tfie Hawke’s Bay Education Board regarding the calling of tenders for conveying children to school, and also granting a sum of money for the tar-sealing of tho school grounds and for replacing broken windows. The chairman reported that the tar-sealing had been completed and the secretary was instructed to write to the Woodville County Council thanking them for the excellent manner in which the work had been carried out by their staff. _ The Pahiatue A. and P. Association wrote stating that the Woodville school picnic would clash with their show, and asking if it would be possible for the picnic to bo held ou a different date. It was decided to advise the secretary of the show that they regretted that as all arrangements had been made for tho picnic it would not now be possible to change the date of same, it was also decided to send invitations to the Ballance, Kumeroa, Hopolands, Woodlands road, Papatawa and _ Maharahaia schools to attend the picnic. The chairman reported that "Parents Day” had turned out to be a great success, and that after all expenses had been paid, there was a credit of £l3 12s 7d to go to the school funds. Cricket A return match between teams representing the Cricket Club and the Town was played on the local recreation ground ou Wednesday afternoon, when the Club team reversed the previous result and won on the first innings by 85 runs. The Municipal Band rendered a selection of dance music in Fountains square on Wednesday evening, which was much appreciated by the large number of the public present. quite a number of tho?e present indulged in dancing on the lawn, and judging by the applause that greeted each item the innovation seemed' to be very popular.
