Tho Manawatu Club held its usual Anniversary Day progressive pairs tournament on Monday, four games cf 1G heads being played, and club members who participated had an excellent day’s sport. A fairly stiff easterly wind narrowed the draw considerably on one hand, otherwise conditions were favourable. Following are the results: —

Skips: Barnes, 3§ wins; McDonald and Koyal, 3 wins each; Kennedy, 2$ wins; Broughton, 2 wins; Bedford and Corbridge, 1 win each; Porter, no wins.

Heads: Shand, Si wins; Gough, 3 wins; Christmas, 2J wins; Low and Mullins, 2 wins each; Cutler and Chilton, 1 win each; Puklowski, 1 win. The president, Mr. J. B. Gerrand, congratulated the winners, Barnes and Shand, and presented them with the trophies donated by tbe club. On the form shown, McDonald was unlucky, as he played brilliantly in all four games and lost his last game by a narrow margin. Boyal, also with 3 wins, played solidly, and is Steadily improving his game. Barnes played his best game in his last encounter, winning by a fair maTgin. Of the leads, the surprise packet was Gough, who very nearly brought off a straight-out victory, but his last game upset his run of wins and left him in Second place. Club members are looking forward to the committee selecting a Saturday afternoon next month for a similar tournament as was held on Monday. The change from the usual Saturday roll-up is attractive, and these short games of seven heads sharpen up the form of club members considerably.
