Levin Show Opened in Brilliant Weather

Well-filled Ring Events

What promises to be one of tbe most enjoyable shows held locally for many years opened this morning. when the 27th annual fixture .of the Horowhenua A. and P. Association was favoured with delightful weather. Although entries in most classes are down owing to hard times, still the quality of stock is maintained and a visit to the Show is well worth anybody’s while •from this point of view alone, as it serves to demonstrate within a relatively small compass the resources of a sound district. Horowhenua is famed for its Jersey cattle, and in this respect the display is very typical, the number being only two short of what it was last year. In the classes for horses and competitions the aggregate is only eight behind that at the previous Show. _ln the district open jumping competition, to be held this afternoon, the nominations total 18 an increase of one; and the pony race, 12 hands or under, has nine entries in place of six. Increases are also shown in the entries, for the second day, in the qualified hunters competition, from ten to thirteen, the ladies’ jump, from nine to ten, the open hunters’ competition, from ten to fifteen, and the steeplechase jumping, from six to thirteen. The arrangements for the accommodation and convenience of the public are in accordance with the well-estab-lished tradition of the Association, which means that they are of the best. The luncheon room is under the management of the ladies’, committee and the fare is excellent. There is also a counter-lunch booth, which suits the needs of quite a number. The Plunket Society has again opened a room for the care of young children, at a small charge. Booths for the sale of ice cream, soft drinks and other refreshments are placed about the ground in convenient spots, and the plantations afford excellent shelter for picnic parties. The amusement park can claim to have attracted sideshows of merit, and it is reasonable to expect that the various entertainments and stalls will be well patronised. In the Pavilion there is a very fine exhibition, comprising the home industries and schools section, and this department alone should be a sufficient inducement to many people to visit the Show.
