•O' / A IV Sa|/s Pdlfisld from PMC. Isn’t it amazing how one’s opinions change? I always thought Sales were just opportunities for drapers to clear out old goods—which one never really liked when one got them home—but now I’m at P.D.C. I know that THEIR Sales, at any rate, are sales of brand new goods. It’s a positive fact my dears, they simply haven’t got any old stock! F’instance there is an amazing bargain offering in pure silk hose—part of a shipment which arrived on Monday—British (not Canadian!) fully fashioned, 10 wonderful shades and heavy service weight. Yet although they’re made for hard wear they are priced for hard times—s/11! They’re slightly sub. standard but a 9/11 quality and too good to miss. You can buy mesh hose too for 1/11 now. Pretty undies are always fascinating and in these days of varying qualities and price scrambles, it was refreshing to discover such dainty things at such remarkable prices. I noticed some locknit knickers—crepe weave—in all the sweetest pastel shades—l/6! Princess Slips with opera top and a dainty embroidered motif at the neck—ladderproof and in all colours—are only 4/11. Locknit is ever so popular and do you wonder?—it wears so well and saves a lot of money. There are some attractive - vests too in cotton and art silk (1/11) with silk shoulder straps—in pink, sky and apple. There seems to be no end to the original notions in knitted jumpers. The joy of the one on this page is the white star thru’ the centre of which one pops one’s head—the rest of it is in a contrast of orange, lemon, royal or apple, and the price is but 7/11. A felt hat of the type I’ve sketch is extremely useful. A lovely range of pastel felts is showing at 5/11 (usually 10/6 to’ls/6)—they have an air of dash which is infinitely chic. Hands are so much in evidence that gloves are important. Washable doeskin gauntlets (5/11) are particularly smart and wear marvellously. A white handbag looks charming with different frocks and is a wise purchase for the business girl with a modest allowance. 8 different styles— ?6/Q to 12/6 —and don’t forget they’re washable! % mmt In There’s not much room left but I must tell you :ome news which has interested us tremendously. [ came back from my holidays to find, the town nizzing with wild rumours—“Mr. Wallace is going o emplov dozens of juniors and 13 of the present staff are'being put off”—and such-like stones. So : had a talk to the chief—he had, spent his half ioliday interviewing 62 applicants to his .dvertisement incidentally—and at the end of it nore than ever realised the seriousness of the youth memployment problem. Positions .for 11 were Monday also brought us another dazzling collection of the increasingly popular scarf and never before have we offered such breath-taking values at 1/-, which of course is a special reduction for the Sale. You’ll marvel at the silkiness of the material and the range of colours in the smart spot designs. You know a scarf is just the thing to perk up your wardrobe —add a new scarf to an old suit, and the result is practically a new outfit. lempioymcun. piuwicxu. ...... - - i n the manufacturing Dept, ana the store boys and 8 girls-his regret is that he was unable to squeeze more w. The security of the S Sales Staff has not been jeopardised by the engagement of these juniors one and 1 0 f us ar e sorry to know that the firm s efforts to help fellow citizens, thru their lildren, have been so misrepresented. POP IN TO Special - P.D.C © A pure silk stocking for 4/11! fully fashioned, service weight, new cradle foot and Cuban heel. The range of shades is wonderful —there’s no other word for it.

“And arc you a good cook?” “I should say I am, ma'am. Why I was sacked from a boarding-house l”
