POSITION OF CROSSBREDS AT HOME

Mr. W. P. Devcreux, representative in London and on tho Continent- of Australian wool growers, reports vuai the London wool sales continue active. The opening improvement of the sales shows a hardening tendency. Withdrawals are negligible. Bradford topmaker reports a good undertone, but tho market is quiet. Merino topmakers are maintaining tlieir quotations, but with few transactions, although tho business offering is below the quoted prices. Crossbred tops are firm and some business in fine and medium sorts has been done.

Yarns aro firm but business is small with rather more inquiry. The merino outlook is rather brighter. Crossbreds are firm but quiet.

The Bank of New South Wales is in receipt of the following cable message from its London office dated January 20:—“Wool prices firm at opening rates. Competition well maintained.”

Excited Competition at Sydney Sales Received Monday, 9.55 p.m. SYDNEY, Jan. 23. At the wool sales 12,450 bales were offered and 11,858 sold, also 1836 disposed of privately. Under excited and general competition tho market ruled very firm at closing rates last week with specially keen inquiry for fine quality wools. Greasy merino sold to 21fd.
