The Palmerston North polico Teport that the hod/ of Mr. Edward Webster, 'of Awahuri) who was drowned in the 'surf at Tangimoana beach on Sunday, Vas recovered yesterday morning about three miles down the coast. Members of the Palmerston North division of the St. John Ambulance ■were in attendance at tho Ashhurst races and the meeting at the Sportsground yesterday, although their services were only required at tho latter place. Sergeant Andrews was in charge at Palmerston North and Mr, Lewis, ambulance officer, at Ashhurst. Mr. Walter Norton Grantham, aged 25 years, who was killed in a motor accident near Nai Pwi, Wanganui, on Sunday, had been employed in tho Wavorley district continuously ever sinco ho left Flock House in 1926 and was highly respected. His father had been a chief officer in tho mercantile rnarino and lost his life during tho war. Mr. Grantham’s mother resides at Louth, Lincolnshire. Tho funeral will take place at Wanganui to-day and will be attended by Flock House trustees. While leading the Held in the second heat of tho half mile cycle race at the Sportsground yesterday, Albert Fade, of Camden street, Feilding, met with an accident which necessitated his admission to the Palmerston North Hospital. The incident occurred about noon, tho cyclist’s foot apparently pulling oft tho pedal, causing him to overbalance on the bond. Mr. Eado was carried along the asphalt track for several yards, receiving concussion and head and body wounds. He was attended to by the St. John Ambulance and removed to the Hospital by tho ‘Free Ambulance. His condition last evening was reported to be satisfacto^.
