THE HEMP INDUSTRY PRODUCTION FIGURES SHOW INCREASE

The Government returns of hemp and tow put through the grading stores at the ports of the Dominion, including Foxton, during December show a decided increase on the figures for tne corresponding month of the previous year. The following are the figures for December, 1932, with the figures for December, 1931, being shown in parcntheses Hemp:—Auckland: Good fair 24, high fair 90, low fair 209, common 118, rejected 10; total 451. Wellington. Good fair 151, high fair 4uo, low fair 698, common IS4, rejected 29, condemned 1; total 1523. Foxton: High fair 109, low fair 245, common 108; total 480. Picton: Good fair 85, high fair 11, low fair 4; total 100 Henheim: G od fair 120; total 120. Bluff: Good fair 4, high fair 11, low fair 108, common 360, rejected 44; total 527. The totals graded are as follow: Superfine, nil (45); good fair, 384 (292); high fair, 681 (Ho); low fair, 1264 (533); common 770 (200); rejected; 101 (71); condemned, 1 (nil); total, 3301 (1260), an increase of i 941 bales. Tow:—Auckland: Second grade 32, third grade 28; total 60; Wellington: First grade 12, second grade 209, tinrd grade.lls, condemned 2; total 338. Foxton: First grade 180, second grade 14, third grade 16, condemned 3; total 213. Picton: First grade 34, second grade 14; total 48. Blenheim: Second grade 59; total 59. Bluff: Scconu grade 102, third grade 98, condemned 13; total 213. The totals are as follow:—First grade, 226 (101); second grade, 430 (210); third grade 257 (68); condemned, 18 (2); total, 931 (381), an increase of 550 bales. Stripper slips:—Bluff: Second grade 26; total 26. The totals are: Second grade, jo (7); total, 26 (7), an increase of 19 bales. Foxton Cricket Assoeiation. At a meeting of the Foxton Cricket Association held on Monday evening the following delegates wero present: Messrs F. Woods (chairman), A. Nichoi, J. Veale, J. B. Bennett (Oroua Downs), R. Roore, H. Taylor, J. McGregor, x. Pitihira, G. Woods and L. Mohekcy. A letter was read from the Manawatu Cricket Association asking for a return match with Foxton juniors on January 23. The secretary reported that the Foxton team would bo engaged on that date in a match against Horowlienua and it was decided to advise the Manawatu Association accordingly. The Manawatu Association also wrote enclosing a copy of its rules for the guidance of the local association in drawing up a set of rules and advised that Foxton should seek affiliation with the Manawatu Association.—Eeceivcd. Mr. Nichols reported on the Foxton-Fcild-ihg representative game played at Feilding during the holidays, the report being favourably commented upon. The sub-eommitteo set up to draw up rums for tho association submitted same which were read and adopted. Mr. Bennett commended tho com- -ittee on its work in connection with the preparation of rules and a vote of thanks was accorded members. It was decided that a working bee be held on Friday to prepare the ground for Monday's match. Votes of thanks to the cnair and to Mrs. Walls for the use of her rooms concluded tho meeting. Cycling. Two road cycle races wero held under the auspices of the Foxton Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club on Wednesday evening and were witnessed by. a largo crowd of spectators in Main street. Personal.

Ensign W. T. Armstrong, of Hawke’s Bay, has taken over the cliargo of the Foxton Salvation Army Corps vice Adjutant Parkinson who has been transferred to Eltham. Mr. and Mis. Parkinson left Foxton last week and Ensign and Mrs. Armstrong are now in residence in Robinson street. Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong have been stationed in Hastings for the past two years and were there- at the time of the earth.cuiakfi-
