&UMEROA-HOPELANDS,
Instead of tie ordinary monthly meeting this month, members and frionds of the Kumoroa-Hopelands Women’s Institute met on tho banks of the Manawatu river and held a picnic on Tuesday last. There wero a great many present in spite of the showery weather and they all had a bright and happy day. Some wont bathing while others played games and races wero held. A* ladies’ thrco-legged race caused much amusement, both to tho spectators and those participating, tho winners being Mrs Jim O’Neil and Miss Rasmussen, Mrs Norman and Mrs Miller wero second, Mrs Maboy and Mrs P. J. Martin third, and Mrs Cranlield and Mrs Newbrook next. A delightful lunch and afternoon tea was partaken of under the trees, but rain eame on and tho afternoon terminated hurriedly.
