Remarkable Career

Having returned .to concert work, the Australian Mate. Peehmann-Labori, who was well-known there as Maggie Oakley some years ago, recently gave a wellreceived piano recital under the auspices of the British Broadcasting Company in London. A talented woman and a fine musician, Madame PachmannLabori has certainly had a remarkable career. She first married the famous pianist, Paehmann, and after divorcing him becamo tho wife of Maitro Labori, the brilliant French Advocate, who made history by defending Alfred Dreyfus, tho French captain who, after many prolonged trials was finally declared innocent of charges of having betrayed secrets to Germany. She has related that, while going to court during the trial she found her husband, lying in tho street; ho had been shot in the spine. The antipathy to Dreyfus was so great that no one would respond to her appeals to get a doctor, and so she was herself forced to run half-a-mile to get one. Her husband lived but long enough to sco Dreyfus acquitted. Madame is gradually preparing a book from notes left by him, and is sure that tho work will cause a sensation when it is published.
