Pohangina Valley
From Our Own Correspondent. Tho breaking-up ceremony took place at the Pohangina school on Friday afternoon. There was a good attendance of parents and friends and a very pleasant afternoon was spent. The following items wero given by the children: —Choruses by the senior pupils; recitation, “The Torch of Life,” Ivan Lepper; nursery rhymes, primer pupils; recitation, “The Pirate,” Tom Herrington; recitation, ‘Tho Lake of Isle of Innasfide,” Lindsay Klink. Tho children gave drills and marches on tho lawn, also Highland dancing to music played by Mr. Stuart on the pipes. Tho dancers wero Donald Sinclair, Rex Watson, Kevin Balmer and Dick Moar. Mr. A. P. Balmer (chairman of school committee) spoke a few words prior to presenting the prizes. He congratulathd the children on their success in the Calf Club, reminding them that all could not win a prize, but this being their first year they gained experience which would bo useful to them next year. He congratulated Beryl Harland and Edward Hockley iu winning second and third places respectively in group 4 for record keeping. Each child was awarded a book prize. Ivan Leppner, who was successful in passing his proficiency examination, was presented with his certificate and a special book prize from the committee. He was the only candidate this year. Attendance cards were awarded as follows: Tom Berrington, Ruth Harland (full attendance), Vivian Klink, Neville Moar and Beryl Harland. Mr. Balmer concluded his remarks with thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Stuart for the kindly interest they took in the children and with best wishes to all for the festive season. A dainty afternoon tea was provided by tho ladies.
