From Our Own Correspondent. Women’s Institute Meeting. Miss Guthrie presided over tho usual largo attendance at the December meeting An invitation was received to the birthday of Wostmere Lodge, but owing to tho distance members would have to travel it could not be accepted. Tho members stood for one minute in sympathy with Mrs. Hewison, who has recently had a bereavement in her family. The president stated that arrangements were well in hand for a successful evening on Christmas Eve. Votes of thanks were tendered to Miss Fitzgerald, who had taught the children dances, Mrs. Boshier, who had played for tho danciug, and Mrs. Stokes, who had brought Miss Fitzgerald down each Saturday. All institute members are reminded to bring a small plate for supper for tho children on Christmas Eve. Further arrangements were made for tho picnic, to be held at the Dress Circlo on January 2. Another sack of parcels was forwarded to Mrs. Stalker at the Fcilding Belief Depot. A market stall proved very popular during the afternoon. After the close of the meeting a short programme was contributed as follows:—Pianoforte solo, Miss T.

Kreger; community sing and recitation, Mr. Fox. Two numbers were ably rendered by the newly-formed Glee Circle. Tho two. competitions were well contested, prizes being voted as follows: —Smocking, Mrs. Reilly 1, D. Fanlchauser 2, Mrs. F. Biclski 3; lady’s spray, Mrs. Haythorne and Miss R. Reilly equal, and Mrs. Guthrie 3. Tho January meeting will bo held at Mrs. Fankhauscr’s home, arid a talk Will bo given by Mr. A. Morgan. The competition will be for tho best darned pair of sox, and the hostesses will be Mesdames W. and D. E. Boshier, E. J. Burke, F. Bielski and Miss M. Bourkc. The president brought up the matter of sending a hamper to the Porirua Mental Hospital in tho near future. School Concert and Prize-giving. On Thursday a very good concert was staged by the pupils of the school. Great praise is due to Mr. and Mrs. Monk for tho way they had trained the children. Mrs. Monk received especial praise for the many paper dresses she had made. During the interval, the chairman of tho school committee presented the prizes for the year’s work. The dux prize was awarded Gwylfa Robinson, who also received a proficiency certificate. Others receiving certificates were: June Harris, Gwen Mocss and Joyce Fankhauser; standard 5, Fay Gouldcn; standard 4, Bruce Harris; standard 3, Robin Gouldcn; standard 2, Heather Fankhauser; standard 1, Francis Hancock; primer 4, Desmond Boshier. Attendance certificate: Fay Gouldcn, Bruce Harris, Robin Goulden, Heather Fankhauser, Desmond Boshier, Bob Hancock, Alan Hancock, Noel Burke, Harry Boucher, Eileen Fankhauser. Fay Gouldcn received a special attendance prize as sho had not missed one-half day in three years. A special book was presented by G. H. Bennett’s, Ltd., was given to Gwylfa Robinson for the best item given in tho concert. Mr. Jewell also gave a prize to Desmond Jones for his recitation, “Braces.” Mr. Boshier spoke of the successful year the school had had, and also of the fine toacher they had in Mr. Monk. On behalf of the children he called on Mr. and Mrs. Monk to each accept a small gift in appreciation. Mr. Monk returned thanks. Mr. Boshier also thanked Mrs. G. Rose, Mrs. Jewell and Mr. N. Saywell who had helped with the concert.
