The local side’s first innings produced only 193 and when they followed on they played out time to avert defeat. COUNTRY PILE UP BIG SCORE Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Dec. 14. The annual Town versus Country cricket match commenced on the Basin Reserve to-day, in fine weather. The ground and wicket are in good order. Two changes were made in the Country team, Hayward (Rangitikei) and Freeman (Nelson) replacing McGirr and O’Brien. Country won the toss and went in to bat. At lunch-time the Country score was 122 for two wickets. Cameron batted soundly with Massey, though he had a life behind the wickets when he snicked one, the balling going to the boundary. He reached 50 with a lofty drive, which bounded from the playing area into the street. The hundred came up in 95 minutes. Cameron was out five minutes later, skying the ball over point, and Crook running back to take the catch.

The weakness of the bowling of Wellington City this season was revealed when tho country eleven amassed the big total of 435 runs. Hayward and Erecman added 103 for the ninth wicket.
