ASHHURSX The December meeting of tho Ashhurst W.I. was held on Tuesday, there being over 50 members present. The president (Mrs;- -Fen-wick) welcomed two new members, and the meeting opened with tho-Institute song. It was decided to. hold a picnic in tho Domain on February' ! 11. Misses Learny and Trass rendered a pianoforte duct which was much appreciated. Miss Sixtus kindly demonstrated the icing oa a Christmas cake . and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Tho hostesses appointed for next meeting were Mesdames Fenwick, Misses Fairless and Fowler. AOKAUTERE At the December meeting of the Aokautere Women’s Institute, held last Wednesday afternoon, there was a good attendance of members and several visitors. Mrs. Groves presided and extended a hearty welcome to all present, specially mentioning Mrs. A. Cun-in, who had come from Linton to demonstrate pine needle work. This demonstration was one of the most popular ever shown and Mrs. Curriu showed how to do this hr.-<1 craft in a very capable manner. ll f v exhibition of work was very bear' ul and much admired by all. The' roll call, “My suggestion for a home-made Christmas present,” brought forth several original and novel ideas. The competition for open jam'tarts.made with dripping (short was won by Mrs. Pinfold. The prizp was donated by Miss Vow ell. Mrs. Ay, Brill also conducted a jumbled letter competition and donated a small prize to the winner, Mrs. L. Hastings. Arrangements were completed for the children’s Christmas tree and on Thursday evening it is expected to have a large attendance when all the children of the district and their parents have been invited to attend. Tho hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. Pinfold and Mrs. A. Brill and a delicious afternoon tea was served.
