This race took place during the end of October week-end and owing to the fact that sufficient details about the liberation were not forthcoming from the Christchurch people, the exact velocities of the birds have not yet been ascertained. It is understood, however, that the winning bird averaged something like 1700 yards a minute—a remarkably fine effort and one only possible by a bird given a wonderful preparation. Yearling Race. Mr. McPherson’s blue ch. hen, 1; L. Purton’s blue ch. cock, 2; A. Marshall’s black ch. pied cock, 3. The race took placo last week-rina when the birds bad to contend with a strong easterly wind. As a result of the adverse conditions it is expected that the velocities will bo approximately half those recorded in the other race but the exact figures cannot be made public until further particulars come to hand from Christchurch.
