Christmas festivities were foreshadowed by the arrival late on Sunday night of the mail steamer Monowai with a large cargo of fruit from San Francisco and Rarotonga. The American consignment consisted of a variety of dried and fresh fruits, including a largo amount of grapes, intended for consumption during the Christmas season. From Rarotonga the Monowai brought about 16,000 cases of fruit, a large percentage of which consisted of tomatoes. W.W.' ■
