of Christ to all men—too often moves like an invalid’s wheel chair.

THE HAPPIER LIFE.

Forget the ache your own heart holds, By easing others’ pain; Forget your hungering for wealth, By seeking others’ gain; And make your life much briefer seem By brightening up the years— For tears dry quicker in the eyes That look for others’ tears.

Heartache fades quickest from the heart That feels another’s pain; The greed for wealth dies- sooner if We seek another’s gain; Life’s sands run lightly if we All With kindness all the years— And tears dry quicker iu the eyes That look for others’ tears. —S. W. Gililan.

FINISH DRESSING,

Dr. F. B. Moyer, commenting on Paul's instructions for the Christian's attire. “Put on therefore, as God's elect, holy, and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, long-suffering,'' and the girdle of love over all, says that many a Christian, when he appears on the family scene in the morning, might properly be sent back upstairs to finish dressing. It is a fruitful thought. We arc very careful about our material clothing. If a dry-goods clerk should come to the store without his necktie he would, as soon as he was informed of this lack by his laughing friends, hurry to the necktie counter and buy one; but he might come to the store lacking in every one of Paul's garments of the soul and neither he nor his friends might realise what is wrong. Better leave off your coat and shoes, better go in shirt sleei'es and barefoot, than leave off humility or courage or holiness or love. Finish your dressing.

A GLORIOUS DEFENCE.

In the days when the children of Israel wore in bondage in Egypt, and God was planning a great deliverance, He sent His judgments upon Pharaoh. After the third jldgment God told the King that He would put a “division" between the people of Egypt and the children of Israel, and that the power of each succeeding plague should not be felt by His people. The Hebrew word translated “division'' in Exodus viii. 23, is the word translated “ redemption" in Psalm cxi. 9. Consequently when the plague cut off all the cattle of Egypt there was also the fact recorded “But of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one." As plague followed plague upon Egypt so blessing followed blessing on the Israelites. Where the children of Israel were “was no haiil" and “all had light in their dwellings." Surely these incidents teach us what we may pray for and expect in this time -when God's judgments are calling men to righteousness_ Let U 3 prove that the Lord does still put a “difference" between the children of this world, and the children of light, not only by our outward lives, but in our glad enjoyment of His perfect provision for every need. Faith asks and expects. Let us. not only keep praising but praying for and proving the protection of the redemption wrought f-or us and in ns.
