From Our Own Correspondent. The many friends of Mr. Arthur Richards, Stafford street, will be pleased to hear that lie returned home on Saturday after his spell in. the Palmerston North public hospital. Miss L. Brown, who is a mistress at tho Palmerston North Girls’ High School, visited Shannon on Thursday evening for the purpose of coaching tho Girls’ Club basketball team. She also returned on Saturday afternoon and her visit was much appreciated. Mrs. J- Hallam, who has been confined to her bed as the result or a nasty fall, is now able to get about a little.

Tho many friends of Mr. E. Sands will bo pleased to hear he is making satisfactory progress.

Tho question of forming a road to link up Buckley and Koputaroa nas again been revived amd an endeavour is to be made to have the work carried out.

It is understood that there is a possibility of a medical practitioner taking up his residence in Shannon. This, if it should occur, will be greatly appreciated by the residents. The Mangaore Social Club’s euchre tourney attracted a large attendance of players, many of whom journeyed out from Shannon. The winners of the most games were Mr. Elliott and Mrs. Martin, consolation awards being made to Miss Vera Aim and Mr. A. Coates. The Social Club of the Anglican Church, held a modern and old-time dance in the Parish hall which was well patronised, the music being supplied by Mrs. Allison and Mr. Eemmingsen, and extras by Miss Ethel Jamieson and Miss Zeta Carter. The offices of M.C. were ably carried out by Mr. J. Mabcy. A Monte Carlo waltz competition was won by Mr. O. Tippler and Miss A. Carter. To-night a return ping pong match, Maori v. I’akeha, will take place. The fortnightly euchre party run by the Shannon Croquet Club was again well patronised. The first prize went to Mrs. I’arcell with 90 games, and Mrs. Picard won the second after a play off with Mrs. Pettitt and Mrs. Brann. Tho hostess for the afternoon was Mrs. Morgan, her partner Mrs. Aim, being unable to attend owing to illness.

“Felix the cat” canio into prominence again on Friday evening when Mangaore, the holders, played a further 500 tournament against Shannon.- The match was played in Shannon and after a hard fight “the cat” returned to Mangaoro by 174 points to 1(53. Thirty-two players took part on each side and after it was discovered that Mangaore had retained the trophy, Mr. E. Butt, Mayor of Shannon, congratulated tho winners on their victory, to which Mr. A. Blackwood, president of tho Mangaoro Club, replied that it was undoubtedly due to tho fact that the ivungaoro team had more opportunity to practise together. Au excellent supper was provided by the Shannon ladies.

There was an excellent attendance at the Labour party’s weekly euchre tourney last week. The winners for the evening were Mr. O. Hcrmansscn 1, Mr. A. Satherlcy 2 and Miss Harris 3.

Tho Horowhen 1111 Referees’ Association held a well attended dance in tlie Parish hall on Friday evening. The hall was well filled and things were kept moving by Mr. F. "Wilson, who made a very capable M.C. An orchestra composed of Miss E. Jamieson (piano), Mr. 0. Hermanssen (violin) and Mr. 0. Edwards (cornet) made their lirst appearance and provided some excellent music, which was much appreciated. Two competition dances resulted as follow: Monte Carlo one step, 'Mr. and Mrs. G. Hemmingsen; lucky spot waltz, Mr. J. King and Miss L*. Small. 'GOLF On Saturday afternoon ladies' Canadian foursomes were held for a trophy donated by Mrs. Mark. Miss Stern and Mrs. H. Easton handed in the best cards. The Shannon men's team visited Levin to play a friendly game against tho Levin Club. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent, during which Levin held too many guns for tho visitors.
