Prom Our Own Correspondent. A very successful sock social was held on Wednesday night in aid of the Foxton Methodist Church funds, about 100 being present. A pleasant evening Was occupied with games, competitions and items by a party from Foxton, including Mrs. Ross (piano) and Miss Ross and Master Leo King (songs). There wore also general, needlework, vegetable and sweets stalls. Tho results of the competitions were: Wheat throwing, lvev. Mr. Liddell and Miss McKenzie; musical circles, Mesdames Bird and Stokes; balloon competition, Miss McKenzie; musical parcels, Mrs. C. Voalc, Miss Bernstein; paper dressing, Mr. Riches, Rev. Mr. Liddell; vegetable competition, Mr. Ncamc; children’s wheat, throwing, Master L. Vealo and Miss D. Marehant. At the conclusion an excellent supper was served. Thanks are due to tho visitors from Foxton, who provided the items, and to the ladies of the local committee who did so much to make the function a success.

Tho final for the Thompson Hockey Shield was played at Oroua Downs between Rongotea and Oroua Downs Schools, the home team winning by six goals to nil. All six goals were shot by Joan Jarvis. All the local girls played well, but. Joau Jarvis, Margaret Scott and Isabel Thomson particularly distinguished themselves. Tho final points for the shield were: Oroua Downs 7. Rongotea. 5, G-leu Oroua 0.

The Miniature Rifle Club’s shoot on Monday evening resulted as follows: W. Spicer (id, 70 (scr.), 136; 11. Rivers, juur., 6!>, 65 (2), 136; D. Funnel!, 67, 66 (2), 135; C. Christensen 65, 70 (sen), 130; M. Mills 66, 6-1 (sen), 130; I. Robertson 60, 66 (4), 130; L. Burling 66, 135; J. Conlan, junr., 65, 66 (2), 133; J. Morris 66, 62 (5), 133; H. Dunn 66, 63 (2), 131; H. Rivers senr. 64, 65 (11, 63 (scr.), 129; B. Frith 61, 60 (6), 127; E. Christensen 65, 61 (1), 127; C, Cross 61, 5S (4), 126. The travelling rug presented by tho president was won by M. Mills with the three best scores out of five, a total of 411 out of a possible 420.

Mr. C. M. Sorensen, of Himatangi, is confined to his bed by illness. The friends of Mrs. L. Sim will be sorry to learn that she is in hospital in Wellington, where she has undergone an operation. In common with other districts, Oroua Dowus lias suffered from the particularly heavy frosts of the past few days.
