Athletes' Expenses

BILL FOR 800 DOLLARS An item in the annual report of the South African Athletic and Cycling Association is rather interesting. It is stated that a claim for 800 dollars was made by the American Athletic Association for expenses incurred by the American athletes last year after their visit to the Union. The South African Association considered this out of order. At the annual meeting in Durban recently the secretary explained that excessive claims were made for the expenses of the athletes aboard ship and on arrival in New York and Chicago after the tour. Heavy charges were made for deck chairs on board ship and for such items as bioscopes and a dinner. In the meantime the South African Association has refused to pay the 800 dollars, and if the matter is pressed it will submit it to the jurisdiction of the International Athletic Federation.
