Mr. A. J. M. Goodwin has been appointed manager of the Bank of New South Wales at Palmerston North. Mr. T. M. Geddis has been elected chairman of the Napier Harbour Board in succession to Mr. A. E. Jull, MP., who occupied the position for 22 years. Mr. S. Carter (Waikato) and Master T. Jamieson (Palmerston North) were yesterday welcomed as visitors to the weekly luncheon of the Palmerston North Rotary Club. Mr_ P. Hickey has replaced Mr. L. Hills as relieving teacher at tho Terrace End School, while Mr. T. J. Mar-tiu-Levorscn has replaced Mr. J. D. Campbell at the College Street School. Master Ted Jamieson, of Palmerston North, yesterday entertained members of the Palmerston North Eotary Club with a soprano solo, ‘ ‘ Spring Comes Laughing.’' He was the winner of this section at the recent Manawatu Competitions Society’s festival. Ecv. H. T. Peat, of the Bank street Methodist Church, Timaru, and chairman of the South Canterbury district, who was formerly minister of the Cuba Street Church, Palmerston North, has accepted an invitation to proceed to Gisborne, in the ManawatuHawke’s Bay district, next year. Mr. J. Connor, formorJy lirst assistant at tho Cambridge, school, has taken up the position of first assistant at the Palmerston North Central School in place of Mr. E. H. Taylor, who recently accepted an appointment as headmaster of the Hunterville school. The death occurred in the Waipukurau Public hospital on Saturday morning of a well-known Waipukurau resident in the person of Mr. Charles Henry Nocdl, at the age of 52 years. For the past four years he had suffered from ill-health, and had been an inmate of the hospital for somo weeks. He was born in Wellington, and during his 30 years’ service with the Eailway Department, was for many years on the Hawke’s Bay line as a guard. He was stationed in various parts of the North Island, also at Westport. He leaves a widow and one son, Lawrence, also two brothers, Messrs. K. and L. Noedl, of Palmerston North, and five sisters.
