Shannon Talkies
Movie fans in Shannon are to be again treated to a double-feature programme. A British International picture, "Children of Chance," made and recorded at Elstree, London, will be screened. It is a fascinating romance of the underworld with a powerful east of popular favourites. Elissa Landi plays the dual roles of Lia and Binnie, the latter role of demure maidenhood being chiefly prominent in the development. Her effective work is matched by that of Mabel Poulton in the part of her pal Mollie, John Longden as tho candid crook, and John Stuart in the conventional role of Lia’s lover. The second feature produces Leslie Fuller, that prince of comedians in "Old Soldiers Never Die." A comedy extravaganza with a scanty story of rookies' adventures in tilting with sergeantmajor. Well-varied assortment of hearty Army humours cast in broadest mould, one altogether too broad. Familiar exchanges between Tookics and ser-geant-major, complete with dolours of drill, battalion concert turns, and male impersonation comicalities. Breezy stellar characterisation, light-hearted supporting portrayal, capable direction. Settings, recording, and general technique achieve good standard. "They only fade away."
