Finding Sticky Valve
The exhaust valves of an engine always operate at a higher tc-mporaturo than in Jet valves, and, therefore, arc much more likely to become sticky. At low engine speeds a sticky valve remains open and robs that particular cylinder of its compression. At high speeds the compression may force down the valve to overcome the obstructions in tho valve-stem guide. At medium speed the .forcing of the valve against its scat will produce a loud clicking noise. These are the symptoms of sticky valves. If you bear this in mind you will find it an easy matter to locate the sticky valve by taking off the valve cover plates and watching the valve springs. While the engine is running slowly, the spring of the sticky valve will remain compressed. When you have located the faulty valve treat it; with kerosene.
