Men Without a Country
The stormy petrel of Bolsnevik Russia, Leon Trotsky, has been deprived of Russian nationality by a Moscow decree. So he now joins the strangest army in the world—the army of men without a country. There are more people in this position than the average person would imagine. Theic are eight men serving in the British Army who arc officially without any nationality'. There arc doubts as to where they were born, and so they cannot bo regarded as nationals of any State.
Army service docs not make a man a citizen of the country which lie. helps to defend. Otherwise, Herr Hitler would have had no difficulty in obtaining German naturalisation in order to stand as candidate for the Presidency. He served in the German Army during the War. Since then the Austrianborn Nazi leader has been, as Trotsky now is, without official nationality.
