A white heron, rarely seen in New Zealand, was observed on tho Awapuni lagoon last week by two Palmerston North boys, who secured several photographs of it. While riding a motor cycle towards To Horo, Allan Drysdalc, a Levin man, encountered two motor lorries and iD endeavouring to pass between them collided with one, being heavily thrown and sustaining a badly fractured col-lar-bone. Ho was brought to the Palmerston North hospital, where he Is making favourable progress. W. Nicholls (middleweight champion of New Zealand), R. Newth (Manawatu light-heavyweight champion) and R. De Clone, who was runner-up in the New Zealand welterweight championship, members of tho United Wrestling Club, have been matched to wrestle at the Leslie Testimonial tournament being held in Wellington this evening. Members of tho Manawatu Patriotic Society are reminded of two meetings to be held in the City Council Chambers to-morrow evening. A general meeting will be held at 7.30 for the tiansaetion of general routine business, and will be followed -by the annual meeting for the purpose of receiving the annual report and balance-sheet, and electing officers, etc. All members are earnestly requested to be present.
