ANGLICAN SUNDAY SCHOOL TEA From Our Own Correspondent. The annual tea and prize-giving of the Anglican Sunday school was held in the public hail on Friday evening. There was a good muster'of children and a fair sprinkling of parents and friends. Activities commenced with tea in the lodge room, where the tables were neatly laid and decorated with flowers. After tea the evening was devoted to games and competitions, while several items wero contributed by Sunday school pupils, as follows: Song, Miss Phyllis Burton; sailor's hornpipe, Master Claudo Henderson; songs, Misses Kathleen Coomb or and Ruby Clark; recitations, Misses Sylvia Nix and Ruby Clark. Near the conclusion of the evening the prizes won last, year, together with those won in the various competitions, were presented by Mr. C. Anderson, who apologised for the absence of the vicar (Rev. H. B. Goertz). Tho prize-list was as follows: Infants, Louis Mitchell 1, Peggy Turner 2, Ena Levanticr 3, Claudo Henderson special; senior girls, Ruby Clark 1 and Special, Rene Turner 2, Norma Devantier 3; senior boys, Mostyn Anderson 3, Selwyn Anderson 2, Bruco Kilmistcr 3 and special. Books were given to all other pupils of the Sunday school. Supper was served later, 'after which the singing of tho National Anthem concluded a very successful evening. Much credit is duo to tho teachers, Mrs. A. M. Carson (superintendent) and Miss M. Thomas, for the manner in which they made the arrangements and controlled the function. General At a well-attended meeting of the Defence Rifle Club it was decided, owing to certain range difficulties, to disband the club. The cup held by the club will be handed over to the Miniature Rifle Club. It was decided to dispose of the club’s funds by dividing them equally between tho public library, tho school library and the Methodist and Anglican Sunday schools. Each of these wilt benefit by over £4. Thanks were extended to Mr. R. Currie for tho use of his property in the past, and also to the officers of the club. The Glaxo factory discontinued its drying operations on Friday. Several farmers are now sending their milk every alternate day. Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Jefferies and their daughter, Zoe, returned homo on Friday after an enjoyable holiday in Hawke’s Bay. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. James and family returned home during tho week from a holiday at Plimmcrton. The friends of Ifr, J* H. McLeod will regret to learn that ho as an inmate of tho Palmerston North hospital, having to undergo an operation. In the Manawatu competitions last week Master C. Henderson competed with some success, gaining first in tho sailor’s hornpipe, first in the sword dance (under 10), second in the Highland fling, second in the Seantriubhas, very highly commended in tho Irish jig, and highly commended in the tap dance. In the piauo duet (open), Misses R. Donald and M. Thomas succeeded in gaining a place, but it is unfortunate that they had no opposition.
