Beam of Light Carries Human Voice
DIRIGIBLE COMMUNICATES WITH GROUND. j San Francisco Press Broadcast. : SCHENECTADY, N.Y., May 19. The dirigible Los .Angeles whispered down a beam of light to the ground what she saw from the air as she cruised over this city tonight. The experiment with this new secretive system of communication was conducted by officers of the Navy dirigible and engineers of the General Electric laboratories. The voices from the air, fading occasionally as the ray of light projected from the Los Angeles swerved from the mirror picking it up, were broadcast by radio. Experimenters said such communication offered a means of reporting aerial observations to the ground without ,the danger of pickup by an enemy.
