M.C.C. Snubs Australia
Visit New Zealand or no Tour ALLEGED RUDENESS TO N.Z. DELEGATE United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Friday, Midnight. LONDON, May 20. The News-Chronicle, claiming to reveal exclusively tho truth of the M.C.C. match negotiations with the Australian Board of Control for the New Zealand tour, declares that the board strongly objected to tho extension of Marylebonc’s tour to New Zealand, considering that New Zealand should make its own arrangements. Tho Chronicle adds that New Zealand sent a representative to Australia where ho -was most rudely received, the board giving him only a few minutes to state his easo and informing him that tho decision had already been made and the representative could read their statement in the newspapers. . Meanwhile the English counties decided that Marylebonc ’a original request should not be altered, Australia being politely told that if it could not agree there might be some question of cancelling the tour. Subsequently the Board of Control saw its mistake. The fact that Marylebonc is able to fulfil its prograinmo both for the Australian and New Zealand tours is regarded as a triumph of tact and diplomacy. Not Saying Anything Received Friday, Midnight. SYDNEY, May 20. Mr. R. A. Oxlade, quetioned about the rudeness to the New Zealand delegate to-night, declined to comment, ric declared any statement regarding the negotiations with New Zealand must como from tho chairman of the Board of Control, Dr. Robertson, of Melbourne.
