WOMAN’S NEW FACE

PLASTIC SURGERY WIPES OUT PAST “Let me forget my past and all will be well,” was the fervent plea of ail unnamed woman, who now confronts the world with a new face. She had spent 20 years in prison for murder, and emerged to find her past like a spectre before her everywhere she turned tor work. Those years had engraved deep lines on her face which the beauty shops were unable to obliterate. In her need she turned to a plastic surgeon who promised to “destroy her old lace. ..The operation was performed oefore an audience of 1000 women.. So excited were they that four fainted from emotional strain. The calmest woman -in the room was she who was submitting to, the operation. A mask covered the upper part of her face as the surgeon smoothed away all appearance of her unwanted personality, and- an orchestra played during the operation. Within less than an hour the audience saw a strange transformation. One side of her face still bore the deep indentations, hut the remade half was almost as round and chubby as that of a baby. The surgeon explained that before the operation the patient’s face was diamond-shaped, “like Janet Gaynor’s” (the film actress's}, lie remarked, but. now it was no type at all.
