OLDEST CLOWN DEAD
FAMILY 200 YEARS ON STAGE Mr George Lupino, the oldest clown of his type, and the head of a famous family, died at Streatham, England, recently, at the age of ;9. He was the father of Stanley, Barry and Mark Lupino. and the uncle of Lupino Lane, the family has had 200 years’ unbroken connection with the stage. Almost the whole of his life was spent in the theatre, for he was horn in a dressingroom at the Birmingham Theatre Royal and he appeared in a harlequinade at the same theatre as recently as l‘J2b. Between those periods he made a name for himself as a circus clown, mimic, and pantomimist. At the age of 71 Mr Lupino did a remarkably good life-size painting of the Crucifixion, which was accepted on behalf of Wandsworth Old Parish Church and hung there.
