Feilding Golf Club
IMPROVEMENTS TO THE COURSE,
At a meeting of the committee of me Feilding Golf Club held on Thursday night, consideration was given to proposals offered by the president, Mr. E. Fair, for tho carrying out of improvements to tho course. During the discussion the following proposals were offered: (1) Cleaning up the idle land at tho entrance to the links and levelling it; (2) levelling bumpy sections of Nos. 1 and 2 fairways to provide smoother running for the motor mower; (3) alterations to No. 8 green (Bull Pen) by building up the back; (4) the erection of a shelter in tho reserve between Nos. 5 and 6 fairways. The-foregoing work will bo in addition to tho club’s normal allocation each year for course improvements. The area at the entraneo to the links, which it is proposed to level off and plough for tho sowing of potatoes, will be slightly over an acre in size. The provision of the shelter between fairways Nos. 5 and 6 will prove of advantage to players when caught in sudden showers on this section of the links whero natural slioltcr is very Sparse. The idea is to erect a small rustic hut with an iron roof of a size sufficient to accommodate about ten players. In regard to the alterations to No. S green it has been felt that this hole could do with considerable improvement and tho proposals are to entirely reconstruct the green to provide a high back somewhat similar to “Land’s End” on the Manawatu Club’s course. During the alterations, whicli will commence next week, a temporary green will bo laid down to the right of the gum tree.
