Bennett’s furniture showrooms, Rangitikci street, there will be on view a remarkably fine collection of watereolours, oil paintings and original etchings by British, Continental and Colonial artists with good reputations. The pictures, which are both antique and modern, have been brought here by Mr. MalcolmMeCormick, a member of the Canterbury Society of Arts, i The collection, taken as a whole, may be regarded as one of the finest, most artistic and most diversified ever shown here. The oil paintings and water colours number 66, and cover a w T ide range of subjects, the greater number showing line views of English, Scottisu and Erench scenery. Amongst the artists represented arc: Lee Hankey, E. 1., G. H. Brough toil, R.A., Fred J. Knowles, R. 1., A. Fourncria (Paris), G. G. There are two specimens of old oil paintings on porcelain by Adler, which must bo mentioned as they represent something exceedingly rare and unique in miniature paintings. About the year 1546 the King of Bavaria commanded that the masterpieces in tho galleries of Munich be painted in miniature on porcelain. The artist, Adler, was specially chosen to paint, the figure subjects, which he did to projection, his work having been declared by artists and critics to be of exceptional refinement and beauty. By a piece of good fortune two specimens have found their way into Mr. McCormick’s collection. Mr. McCormick declares that ho cannot, during his long career as an artist's agent, evci remember seeing any miniature paint ings to equal these in drawing, dencaey and beauty of colour. Besides this feast of colour there is on \ icw an excellent display of origina. etchings in black and white and etching colour; there is even a guaranteed specimen by Rembrandt, the subject representing Abram Francesi, a Dutch ai« dealer of the seventeenth century. The exhibition will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and inspection is cordially invited.
