The death is cabled from Sydney of Mr. W. P. McElhone, former Lord Mayor and president of the New South Wales Cricket Association for eleven years. A wireless message states that Sir Basil Blackett, the noted authority on linance, who has been selected as one of the candidates for the Parliamentary by-election at Marylcbone, has resigned the chairmanship of Imperial and International Communications, Ltd., and the directorship of Cables and Wireless, to devote himself to other public interests. A London cable message reports the death at Montpellier, France, of Sir Patrick Geddes, scientist and sociologist, aged 77. Sir Patrick Geddes at the time of his death was professor of sociology and civics at the University of Bombay, professor of botany (retired) at University College, Dundee, senior resident of University. Hall, Edinburgh, director of the Cities and Town Planning Exhibition, director of the Scots College at Montpellier University, and president of tho Sociological Societies of London, Edinburgh and Montpellier. Among the officers who will be visiting Palmerston North at tho week-end for the reunion of the Wellington Regiment are Major-General R. Young, C. 8., C.M.G., D.S.O. (Wellington), Colonel W. H. Cunningham, D.S.O. (Wellington), Colonel. J. 11. Holderness (Hastings), Colonel C. H. Weston, D.S.O. (Auckland), Lieutenant-Colonel F. K. Turnbull, D.S.O. (Wanganui), and Colonel E. P. Cox (Wellington). A cablegram has also been received by Major Hardie from Brigadier-General H. E. Hart, Administrator of Samoa, extending felicitations and good wishes to the regiment.
