LADIES’ HOCKEY. From Our Own Correspondent. On tho recreation grounds on Wednesday afternoon a match was played between the local team and Rata. Mr. T. F. Iwikau refereed. Tho game ended in Halcombc’s favour by 3 goals to 2. The visitors wore afterwards entertained at afternoon tea. KAKARIKI HOUSEHOLDERS’ MEETING. Mr. W. McLennan presided over eleven householders at the annual meeting on Monday evening. Tho balancesheet showed a credit balance of £l6 19s Yd in tho board account, with £3 2s Sd in the special account. A vote of sympathy was accorded Mr. Toa, a native, who has suffered tho loss of four children during tho last eighteen months. A vote of thanks was accorded Mrs. George, wife of tho headmaster, for her kind assistance in maintaining the standard of the school during her husband’s illness. Tho following committco wore elected: Messrs. Congrcivo (chairman and secretary), W. McLennan, ,T. Blundcn, T. Mason, W. Fcrgusson, junr.

~LODGE NO. 140 1.0.0. P. INSTALLATION. On Tuesday evening a largo crowd witnessed tho installation of tho officers of the Kopane Lodge No. 140. Tho officers installed by D.D. Grand Master Bro. O. Prouso and D.D. Grand Marshal Bro. J. Mansell were: Past Grand, Bro. C. Donovan; Noblo Grand, Bro. D. Carrington; Vico Grand, Bro. P. Bottcher; secretary, Bro. E. C. Pedley; financial secretary, Bro. H. Schriebor; treasurer, Bro. S. Wood; warden, Bro. N. Ogilvie; conductor, Bro. R. Hill; chaplain, Bro. W. Odgcrs; P.G. scone supporters, Bros. Child and W. Pedley; Tight and left supporters, Bros. Matheson P.G., and Bro. F. G. Hill; inside guardian, Bro. W. Wallace; outside guardian, Bro. A. Robinson.

Bro. E. J. Boyce was presented with a Past Grand collar and certificates. At the conclusion of tho installation tho lodge members cleared tho hall and dancing was indulged in to music supplied by Bros. Dennis and McKinnon, of Bulls, "while extras wero played by Bros. Matheson, Millard and Wallace. Supper was served by tho lodge committco and Miss Dewar, of Feilding, sang songs. Visitors wero present from Bulls, Palmerston North, Wanganui, Feilding and Kangiotu Lodges.

RUGBY. Football started in earnest on Saturday last on the Recreation grounds, the first match of the senior contest of the Rangitikei Sub-Union being drawn between Bulls and Halcombe at Halcombe. The game was played in brilliant weather with a good attendance of the public. Mr. J. H. Dashwood, of Marton, rofcrced and gave every satisfaction. Tho new scrum rule, 32 —2, was the feature of tho game. Bulls won the toss and took advantage of the wind. Halcombo soon took the defensive and from a good pass from McKcnzio to Brady saw a good score. The kick failed to add the extra points. Halcombe continued to press Bulls hard and from a good forward passing rush Halcombo scored their second try, rue kick again failing. The score now stood, Halcombo G, Bulls 0. Tho first spell ended without further score. The second spell started off briskly and from a passing rush Dais scored a good try, tho score being 9 points to nil in Halcombo's favour. From a penalty Cameron took the kick, but tho ball dropped short. Play hovered about halfway for a time with givo and take tactics and finding tho lino until tho Halcombe forwards broke away with a rush to sco Marshall scoro a well deserved try, tho kick going wide. Tho game ended with no further score. Halcombo 12 points, Bulls nil.
