DRAINAGE BOARD ESTIMATES. The Makerua Drainage Board met in Palmerston North yesterday to frame estimates for the ensuing year and decide upon a rate which will be the same as last year and will be formally struck at the next meeting of the board. On the expenditure side £1260 10s has been allowed for general expenses and includes £575 for bank interest on overdraft (last year £525 3s (id was paid the bank). The pumping plants will absorb £430, while £2ll 12s Od is wanted for electric service lines to the pumps and £IBO for the first yearly instalment on the purchase of the Okuku pump. For drain and river maintenance £635 16s i 3 wanted for wages, £320 for contracts and £25 for maintenance of tools and plant. River protection works will absorb £4"O and maintenance of flood-gates £So. The board's sole revenue is rates and a sum of £3621 is required. The estimates were adopted and last year's balance-sheet approved for audit.
The board accepted a contract for the deepening and cleaning of Seifert's drain (1 mile, 13 chains).
