PALMERSTON PICTURE PROGRAMMES

AT THE REGENT "STRANGERS MAY KISS” STARTS AT MATINEE TO-DAY A modern young woman who embarks upon a globe-trotting honeymoon is Norma Shearer’s glamorous heroine in “Strangers May Kiss,” which will bn screened to-day at the Regent theatre matinee. Filmed from the Ursula Parrott novel, the picture paints a sweeping and racy canvas of the turbulent emotions experienced by this gorgeous creature. Never before has Miss Shearer uppeare'd to belter advantage, and her characterisation of the heroine easily ranks with her work in “The Divorcee,” also written by Miss Parrott. In this new Metro-Goldwyn-Maycr picture brittle and pointed dialogue plays a paramount part, although the action is swift and dramatic. It never becomes stilted, as is so often tho case in a talking picture based upon sparkling dialogue. The scenes aro lavishly presented under the masterful direction of Gcorgo Fitzmaurice. Robert Montgomery is again co-starred with Norma Shearer, and offers a priceless performance, reminiscent of his role in “The Divorcee,” but considerably laden with dramatic and sympathetic appeal. Neil Hamilton, as the man with whom Lisbotli elopes in so unconventional a manner, is fittingly romantic. In the supporting cast arc such sterling players as Marjorie Ranibeau, Irene Rich, Hale Hamilton, Jed Prouty, Conehita Montenegro, Albert Conti, Henry Armctta and George Davis. The picture abounds with what arc known as production values. Tho settings and costumes arc beautiful to the eye, and tho pictorial effects are striking." “Strangers May Kiss” is supported by “Beau Hunks,” a Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy comedy considered to by all to lie the greatest comedy on the screen to-day, and which should not be missed by patrons who enjoy a good laiigh, and then more laughs.
