"Strangers May Kiss” Is Current at Regent

What promises to bo one of the greatest drawing programmes of the many screened at the Regent Theatre is set down as the attraction for today's matinee. Norma Shearer will star in “Strangers May Kiss.” Read what a Wellington critic had to say about the programme: Miss Shearer was star in a very “sophisticated” play, “Strangers May Kiss.” it revealed a very blase world on the subject of sex —so blase, indeed, that one might well imagine that in such a worid only strangers would bother to kiss. Miss Shearer, however, with her arch ways and tinkling laughter, made the to tho audience, among whom many to the audience, among whomo many feminine giggles and shriekettes indicated that points were being registered in suscoptible quarters. In short, it was a flapper's holiday. Two male admirers scintillate around the star, and the audience is kept guessing till the very last moment as to which will win, and if her final decision is awarded on points, they must have been worked out in some complicated manner known to the feminine soul alone. One actor who ’ adds to his reputation is Robert Montgomery. Ilis work has advanced much since he was a rather juvenile lover to a rather juvenile Joan Bennett in “Three Live Ghosts.” As “Steve,” tho lover who masks his pains behind a smile, a gallant knight in a comedy masque, Montgomery scores a distinct hit. His work helps the star immensely. As the other lover (the passionate type) Neil Hamilton puts up a very fair performance, and makes the in-and-out running between himself and his beloved look as reasonable as may be. The whole story, however, is “exotic” in tone, and this enables many florid scenes to bo Aimed, with much dressiness and undressiness, and a general air of abandon, which seems to be the keynote to living.
