WHAT YEAR’S FIGURES SHu A return showing the number of *tock slaughtered at the city abattoir for the year ended March 31, 1932, tcveals that there was a slight decrease in beef consumed and a considerable increase in the consumption of mutton and pork. The figures arc: —Cattle, 1931-32, 4478, 1930-31, 4639, (decrease 161); calves, 1931-32, 636, 1930-31, 675 (decrease 39); sheep, 1931,32, 26,723, 1930- 25,227 (increase 1496); lambs, 1931- 5685, 1930-31, 5365 (increase 320); pigs, 1931-32, 8374, 1930-31, 7867 (increase 507); totals, 1931-32, 45,896, 1930-31, 43/(73 (increase 2123).
The return for March was as follows: —Cows 207, heifers 73, oxen 79, calves 111, ewes 1159, wethers 753, lambs 650, pigs 1049. Stock condemned: 6 cows, 1 heifer, 1 calf, 16 sheep, 32 pigs. Fees received: £3OO 11s.
