Governmet by Order-in-Council

(To tho Editor.) Sir, —I am -wondering if your good self or any of your many readers would help me solve the following problem. I understand the Government have recently passed an Order-in-Council prohibiting the building of picture theatres in this Dominion unless a permit is first obtained from the Minister whose department controls these matters. Is the object of this Order-in-Council part of the Coalition Government’s policy to decrease unemployment or to protect the interests of some of their friends who have money invested in the picture business? I take it that any firm wishing to erect a theatre -would have to finance the proposition themselves. If this is so, why should the Government put through an Ordcr-in-Couneil to prevent people using their own money in bricks and mortar, which would find work for many tradesmen who arc walking the streets of every city and town in this Dominion to-day. Further, I take it that every assistance should be given by the Government to people who by finding work of any description help to relieve tho existing state of unemployment and not to place obstacles in their way, but allow them to spend their own money in any way they choose.—l am, etc., ‘‘OBDERiTHEM OUT.”
