Loyal Manawatu Ledge
'i'lic usual fortnightly meeting oC the Manchester Unity Independent. Order of Oddfellows was held on Thursday evening, N.G. Sister Sutton presiding over a largo attendance of members. An invitation was received from Loyal Foxton Lodge to attend an old-time dance. Two candidates were initiated into the Order; visitors were welcomed from Hamilton and Manurewa Lodges. Bro. Scroggs reported on a visit to Marton where a ritual contest between the Past Grands of Wanganui and the presiding ofliccrs of the former Lodge, resulted in a narrow victory l'or the visitors. Invitations to attend the special Lodge evening to be held on the 23rd inst. were received from Levin, Mangatainoka, Eketahuna, Dannevirke and Foxton lodges. A challenge for the bowls shield is to be issued to the Bcchabito Lodge. Bro. Scroggs installed Bro. Farrar to N.G. to fill the vacancy caused by Sister Sutton’s resignation. At a suitable juncture Bro. Shannon, on behalf of the Lodge, presented to Sister Sutton a very acceptable present on the occasion of her approaching marriage and also expressed the very best wishes of every member. Sister Sutton suitably responded. At the close of business, members and visitors retired to supper served by the sisters of the Lodge, after which ' dancing and boivls concluded the evening.
