Rev. J. Milburn Stewart, of Christchurch, and formerly of Palmerston North, will officiate at the public scrvieo to be conducted by the R.S.A. at the Showgrounds on Anzac Day. A Press Association message from Wellington says that Mr. Oliver Nicholson has been elected chairman of the Bank of New Zealand. Mr. Nicholson is a barrister and solicitor, of Auckland, and has been a director of the bank sinco 1924. Por many years he was Mayor of Mt. Eden, Auckland. Rev. A. Bruce Todd, a well-known Presbyterian minister, attended a gathering at Karori on Thursday night, and on leaving the hall ran a short distance to the tram stop, says a Press Association message. Barling on his recent marriago and present him with a handsome chiming clock. Inspector Harvey spoko of tho esteem in which Detective Barling was held not only in tho Force but also in the city, and expressed the wish of all, that his married life would be blessed with happiness and prosperity. SeniorDetective Quirke, Senior-Sergeant Wkitekouse, Dotectivo Russell, Constable Cole and Mr. Miller endorsed tho remarks of Inspector Harvey, after which all present joined in singing “Fo r He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” Rev. A. N. Scotter, 8.A., was induct-, ed to the charge of St. Paul’s Church, Broadway, last evening, Rev. F. Copeland (Feilding), chairman of the Hawke’s Bay-Manawatu district, being tho officiating clergyman, assisted by the Rev. J. D. McArthur, Cuba street. Rev. Mr. Scotter was presented to Kev. Mr. Copeland by the circuit stewards, Messrs E. P. Wix and E. G. Bennett, and answered tho usual induction questions. The congregation then stood as a token of their acceptance of Rev. Mr. Scotter and an assurance of their loyalty and co-operation. Rev. Mr. Copeland addressed a few impressive remarks to the now'minister and Rev. Mr. McArthur addressed tho congregation. Rev. Mr. Scotter then took chargo and made a brief response.
