Use of Batons by Police
OFFICERS EXEECISE GREATEST PATIENCE. Per Press Association, WELLINGTON, Last Night. In the House to-day, Mr. IV. E, Parry asked whether the Minister of Justice bad read the account of (he unemployed demonstration in Auckland yesterday and whether in view- of the peaceful nature of the procession indicated by the repart he did not think the police had used their batons hastily. Hon. J. G. Cobbe replied that there was no reason whatever to think the police had used their batons hastily. Strict instructons had been given to the police to use their batons only in cases of absolute necessity and- he thought it was generally admitted that the police had exercised the greatest patience.
