Heavy Losses on Branch Railways
BOARD'S DEEP CONCERN Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Last Night. The members of the Railways Board have completed a tour of the Otago and Southland branch lines, and arrived at Dunedin this morning. ’The board expressed its deep concern that, notwithstanding the fact that economics totalling £91,110 had been effected on branch lines alone during the financial year just closed, there remained a total loss of £577,000, including interest, ot which £175,824 is a direct loss in operating in respect Of the branch lines ot the Dominion.
