Feilding Agricultural High School

BOARD OF MANAGERS, The Board of Managers of the I'ctiding Agricultural High School met on Wednesday evening, Mr. J. Knight (chairman) presiding. There were also present Messrs A. C. Buist, A. H. Atkinson, J. S. Tingev, A. Williamson, W. Salt, T. L. Seddon, E. H. Brewer, W. W. Andrews and the principal (Mr. E. J. Wild).

Principal’s Report, The principal reported as follows: — Good progress has been made this term. The boys’ swimming sports were held on March 16, and new records were established for nearly all events. This improvement in our swimming rs mainly due to the-facilities provided by our own baths. The senior champion is R. M. Burgess and the junior, J. B. Simpson. The girls’ sports were held oji March 17, and the champions are K. Salter and A. Fowlcs. For the quarter-mile race for the Campbell Shield there were 35 entrants and 6.1 completed the distance, the winner being H. M. Burgess with R. Y. Towgood and J. L. McDonald nest in order.

Owing to the increase in the number of boys in the school it has been decided to inaugurate another “house.’-’ This has been formed from the day boys in School House and this year’s new boys. It numbers 55 members and has been named Rangitikei House in honour of the Rangitikei county, one of the local bodies contributing to the capital fund of the school. Thanks to Mr. Knight the area added to the playing field has been levelled most satisfactorily and laid down, a good strike of grass being encouraged by the recent rains. Cricket is now over for the term and a short athletic season will continue until the opening of football.

Farm Report. The chief work during I lie period under review lias been laying down new pastures in Townshends on the school farm, and in !_'a on Merry Hill. The weather we arc having at present has given the new grass a splendid start and has also benefited the pastures topdressed in the dry weather. Each year wo have had difficulty with keeping sheep clean owing to not having our own dip. This difficulty is now removed by the completion of a fine dip of up-to-date design, and carried out by a first-class man. Mr. Knight is entirely responsible for this job, for although I understand a certain quantity of material was donated, the greater part of the expense was borne by him, and in addition he gave the personal supervision necessary 1o secure the fine workmanship that has been put; into the jobf Our grateful thanks are due to Mr. Knight and his supporters. Touching on the subject of the new! dip, the chairman said that Ihc thanks of the board were due to trades people of Feilding who kindly donated materials which included two tons of cement, and a. case of sheep dip. The meeting carried a vote of thanks to the donors. Mr. Buist; referred to the work done by Mr. Knight both in regard to the levelling of the playing field and the construction of the dip. The school was indebted to Mr. Knight for all he had done, and the speakers' proposal that the board place on record its appreciation of its chairman’s work, was carried unanimously.
