Feilding Abattoirs

ANNUAL REPORT The annual report on the operations of the Feilding municipal abattoir was presented to last, evening's meeting of the Borough- Council by the manager (Air. A. E. Ramsay). Tho total stock dealt, with last year numbered 34,521 head, as against; 25,507 head for the previous year, an increase of 9332 head. The increase was largely made up of pigs and bobby calves. Foes registered a corresponding increase, the total for the year being £3106 15/2, as against £2265 10/2, an increase of £-841 5/.. The quality of the stock handled throughout tho year was as follows: Beef: Fair lo good; a small increase in the number of cows killed was noticeable. Sheep and lambs: Good throughout, with a small increase of owes. Pigs: Taken all round the quality might bo termed good. An increase of 2218 was recorded in the number handled as compared with the previous year. The committee was probably awaro that a system of grading all pigs killed during the year had been instituted by the Department of Agricult,uro after deliberations with the various pig breeders and bacon curers' associations. This had meant much increased work. Jt. was very gratifying lo note that a very decided improvement had already taken place in breed, type and quality. Further improvement, could be confidently expected in the future. Bobby calves: Excellent quality throughout, with a large increase in tho number handled. Diseases; Condemnations under this head were on a par with previous yoars, there being nothing outstanding to report.
